The following is a list of suggested accessories for the instruments played in Band and Strings. It is not necessary to have everything listed here. This has been provided to allow you and your student to get a better understanding of items available to enhance music study and procure a quality instrument. These items make for great gift suggestions for birthdays and holidays.
ALL BAND and STRINGS STUDENTS WILL NEED: • Folder (this will be provided) • Pencils (2) – Ink Pens and Markers are never used • Music Stand- Very Important for at home practice. Has effect on posture, hand position and vision while reading music. A “wire” folding stand works great. Does not need to be fancy. • Name tag for case (very important, all of the cases look alike) The Methods Books used in Mr. Maglocci's ARE LISTED BELOW. They are available at local music stores and online. These books are to be purchased by the student and brought to every lesson and rehearsal. Instrumental Students should own a Music Stand for home use. Music Stands will be provided for in school use. 3rd, 4th, 5th Grade Strings "Essential Elements" for Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass BOOK 1 4th, 5th Grade Band "Essential Elements" for Flute, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, French Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba or Percussion BOOK 1 FLUTE Recommended Brands: Yamaha, Gemeinhardt Clean cotton cloth (handkerchief or T-shirt) Cleaning Rod (provided with flute) CLARINET Recommended Brands: Buffet, Yamaha 5-10 extra reeds (Mitchell Lurie or VanDoren #2) Tube cork grease VanDoren or LaVoz reed case (optional) (saves $ in long run) ALTO SAXOPHONE Recommended Brands: Selmer, Yamaha, Bundy 5-10 extra reeds (LaVoz MS or VanDoren #2) Cleaning swab Tube cork grease Padded neck strap TRUMPET Recommended Brands: Bach , Yamaha Valve oil (Al Cass FAST preferred) FRENCH HORN Recommended Brands: Holton Farkas H179 or H180, Yamaha YHR-461D, YHR-567D, or YHR-667D Valve oil (Al Cass FAST preferred) Tuning slide grease (Selmer cream preferred) TROMBONE Recommended Brands: Bach, King or Yahama Hetman Heavy-Bodied Slide Oil “Bone Bottle” water bottle BARITONE Recommended Brand: Yamaha YEP-312 or YEP-201 Valve oil (Al Cass FAST preferred) Pillow-Pad as necessary Hetman Heavy-Bodied Slide Oil PERCUSSION Recommended Brands: Ludwig, Pearl, Remo Bell kit and a drum pad with wheels on the case, at least one pair of drum sticks (Vic Firth 5B), and bell mallets. _________________________________________________________________________ ALL STRINGS STUDENTS WILL NEED VIOLIN / VIOLA Recommended Brands: Glaesel, Lewis, Scherl and Roth Shoulder rest (Resonans preferred, purple foam is okay) CELLO / STRING BASS Recommended Brands: Glaesel, Lewis, Scherl and Roth Rockstop endpin holder STRINGS: REMEMBER – Your student should be measured for the correct size at the store. Most 3rd & 4th graders will play a ¼, ½. Or ¾ size violin, a 12’’ or 13’ Viola and a ½ size Cello. Some smaller children may even use a 1/8 while taller 5th graders may need a Full Size instrument. I prefer stores who take the time to measure and even try sizes while in store. |
