Practice Guide

 Home PRACTICE Guide

Attention students and parents.

Playing a musical instrument successfully requires real work and daily practice. There is no way that a person of any age will become proficient at playing without consistent scheduled practice. Music is similar to any discipline that requires the individual to make a commitment to put in the time to make it happen.
  • Bring instrument, music book, music folder, pencil and needed supplies to ALL lessons and rehearsals. There are no loaner instruments available, so coming to Band or Strings without the equipment is like showing up to Soccer and no one has a ball.
  • Home practice is important. Although we see the students for (2) 30 minute lessons per week, daily practice of 15 or more minutes at least 4 times per week is the only way progress will be made.
  • Practice should include a repetition of what Mr. Maglocci does in class with the students. For beginners, this will include proper holding of the instrument, proper care of getting instrument in and out of case. Proper assembly of instrument, (especially Clarinet and Flute) so the delicate parts of the instrument are not damaged.
